WHAT ARE CAM BOOTS AND WHAT DOES CAM STAND FOR?
A CAM walker, a ‘moon boot’ or a walker boot is an orthopaedic device prescribed by podiatrists to offload and immobilize joints in the management of lower limb conditions.
CAM stands for Controlled Ankle Motion. It is an effective treatment modality used by our podiatry team to fix your foot and ankle in one place, and reduce the amount of pressure going through the foot and ankle.
A CAM boot can be used to help with a variety of bone, ligament and soft tissue injuries. If it is a suitable option for you, your Podiatrist will discuss it in your appointment. We often prescribe walkers for:
– Non-displaced fractures
– Stress fractures
– Severe ankle sprains
– Post-surgical offloading
– Tendon ruptures
– Diabetic wounds
– Ankle sprains
